Leather Boot Care

Wipe away dirt and dust from welts and seams with a damp, soft sponge or cloth. Tougher stains may be removed with quality leather cleaners. Never use strong household chemicals as they may damage the leather permanently.

If the leather becomes wet, allow boots to dry completely before using again. Do not use artificial heat sources, such as radiators or hair dryers, to dry boots. Allow boots to dry naturally.

Use leather cream and quality conditioners to restore the softness and flexibility of the leather.

Water repellent protection can be applied when water no longer beads off the outer material.

The use of boot trees in tall boots will help to maintain the overall shape of the shaft.

Care tips specific to Sovereign Boots

The boots don’t have to be soaped before wearing. Note that glycerin soap shall never be used, can give black boots a greenish tone. The best way to keep the boots in a good shape is to use a soft brush and brush away dirt/sand from seams and zipper.

Use a wet cloth to clean the boots or if they are dirty use a soft soap, then shoe polish and a brush. The shoe polish contains enough emollient to keep the boots in a good condition.

Footwear Zipper Care

Always pull the zipper down completely before putting your foot inside or taking your foot out.

Always ensure that the zipper closes easily. Never force the zipper.

Keep the zipper clean from sand, dirt and grit. Excessive dirt on the zipper can be cleaned using a brush, (old toothbrush) and water. Wipe down and dry boots naturally away from artificial heat sources.

The use of boot trees is recommended. Boot trees will prevent the shaft of the boot from collapsing thus putting added pressure on to the teeth of the zipper.

Always ensure that that the zipper locks into position at the top with the zipper tab pointing downwards.

You should never walk or ride with your boots half zipped. Doing so places tremendous stress on the zippers. (You see people doing this at horse shows!)

Proper fit is essential to the longevity of zippers – if a boot is too big in the calf, it may drop excessively and the wrinkling may cause the zipper strain. If a boot is too snug, the zipper teeth will be overly stressed.

Dirty and sticking zippers are a thing of the past when using Hypofekt for zippers.
